A man who strangled a woman to death has been jailed.

Sophie Moss was found in a critical condition following an incident at her home in Darlington in the early hours of February 7 this year.

The 33-year-old was taken to hospital where she sadly died.

Sam Pybus, 32, of Middleton St George, admitted her manslaughter and was jailed for four years and eight months at Teesside Crown Court today (September 7).

Detective Chief Inspector Andy Reynolds, from Durham Constabulary, led the investigation. He said: “This was a difficult and complex investigation, and our thoughts remain with Sophie’s family and friends at this difficult time.

“Although nothing can ever bring Sophie back, I hope today’s result will offer them some comfort and help them to come to terms with their devastating loss.”
