Durham Constabulary recorded crimes 55,877 crimes between April, 2020 and March, 2021 which is a 13% decrease on the same period in 2019/20 – over 8,500 fewer crimes.
Reductions were seen in all top level crime groups with sexual offences, robbery, theft offences, residential burglary, business and commercial burglary, theft of vehicle, theft from vehicle, theft from person, theft of pedal cycles, shoplifting, all other theft offences and criminal damage all reporting decreases of over 10%.
The overall end-of-year resolved rate was 17% with Durham has some of the highest solved rates with a number of crime types being ranked in the top quartile for 9 out of 22 crime types including sexual offences, robbery, residential burglary, business and commercial burglary, theft of vehicle and theft from vehicle.
Anti-social behaviour incidents increased by 14% in 2020/21 with Covid restrictions having an impact, however, levels of youth related anti-social behaviour incidents fell by 6%.
In addition, 81% of victims were satisfied with their experience of Durham Constabulary with 93% satisfied with how they were treated and 83% satisfied by the action taken.
