Policies
Domestic Violence
No level of domestic violence is tolerable and much of the violence endured by victims is preventable. Durham Constabulary recognizes that domestic violence occurs in all classes and communities, and whilst it is mainly perpetrated by men towards women, violence can also be perpetrated by women against men and can occur within same sex relationships. Durham Police also recognize that children involved also suffer direct or indirect harm. Durham Constabulary is committed to safeguarding all victims of domestic violence as a priority. Durham Constabulary is also committed to ensuring that any action taken uses the least intrusive means possible to achieve the identified purpose and that it is in proportion to the issues arising.
Family Liaison
Family liaison is a significant resource that can be used across a broad spectrum of policing. The focus of this policy is to provide a link between families and the police in the event of a fatality or other incident where dedicated point of contact might enhance the effectiveness of the police investigation.
Hate Crime
Durham Constabulary believes that all members of the communities we serve have the right to be treated with dignity and respect. We recognize the need to understand the needs and fears, of potential victims of hate crime and their subsequent contact with police.
Durham Constabulary takes this issue seriously and has developed with its partners a comprehensive policy to combat hate crime.
