Conditions of Service
Working hours
The standard working week is one of 37 hours Monday to Friday. Most
posts are subject to a flexible working hours scheme.
Annual leave
Annual leave will be 26 days (plus a further five days for those who
immediately prior to the commencement of the leave year, have had not
less than 5 years' continuous service under one or more police
authorities as a member of civilian support staff). The foregoing leave
is in addition to normal public holidays. The Annual Leave Year runs
from 1st January to 31st December. Employees who commence employment
during the year will be entitled to a proportion of the Annual Leave
entitlement.
Pension
New employees are required to choose a pension arrangement to which
they will contribute on taking up appointment with Durham
Constabulary.

Probationary Period
Substantive appointment is subject to a Probationary Period of six
months. At the end of the Probationary Period, subject to a
satisfactory report, you will be transferred to the established
staff.
Leisure Facilities
Durham Constabulary employees enjoy the use of a range of sporting and
social facilities at Aykley Heads, including swimming pool and squash
courts.
Smoking Policy
Durham Constabulary operates a "No Smoking" policy except in designated
areas.

Voluntary Reserve Forces
Candidates must be prepared to resign from the Military Adult Voluntary
Reserve Forces as a condition of their employment. These are defined as
the T.A.; the Royal Naval Reserve; the Royal Marines Reserve; the Royal
Auxiliary Air Force and the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve.
