Introduction
The recruitment team manage the recruitment and selection of Police Officers and Police Community Support Officers on behalf of the force, which covers the county of Durham and the unitary authority of Darlington.
Typically, 70 new Police Officers are recruited every year from well over 2,000 initial expressions of interest!
County Durham is a predominantly rural area, centred upon the historic cathedral city of Durham, and stretching from Barnard Castle in the west to Seaham in the east and from Chester Le Street in the north to Newton Aycliffe in the south. Darlington is a major centre of urban population.
The cost of living in the entire region is relatively low and a whole host of sporting and leisure opportunities are within easy reach.
Durham Constabulary has developed strong partnerships with local communities, councils and support agencies and, through its 'StreetSafe' policy, actively strives to live up to its aim to be "the best in community policing". The force has embraced sector policing, establishing strong teams of local beat officers.
People are very important and anyone joining the force is assured of support, recognition and development opportunities.
The force's long established 'Aiming For Excellence' philosophy ensures that all staff realise what is expected of them and are able to contribute to on-going improvements in service to communities.
