Police investigating the rape of a woman in Newton Hall, Durham earlier this month have today released CCTV images of people they want to come forward who may be able to assist the investigation.

The rape happened in the early hours of the morning of Monday, July 12. The victim, a woman in her late 20s, was sleeping on a settee in her house in the Newton Hall estate when she was attacked by a man who is believed to have got into her home through an unlocked front door.

Police have released images of two women and a man who were in the area of Rothbury Road/Middleham Road at about 6.30pm on Sunday, July 11. Detectives believe they may hold vital information which could assist the rape investigation.

There is also a further appeal for any members of the public who may have been in the Rothbury Road and Middleham Road area between 5pm on Sunday, July 11, and 5am on Monday, July 12.

Anyone with information or anyone who recognises the people in the CCTV images is asked to contact Durham Constabulary on 0345 60 60 365 or the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
