Pledge to tackle community concerns

9th June, 2010

Recent surveys used to measure public confidence in Consett police show significant fluctuations.

Used to gauge local concerns about anti-social behaviour and crime the surveys show that between June and September of last year confidence rose from 54.2% to 60.8% while it dipped between December and March from 57.4% to 42.9%.

Inspector Dave Turner said: "Public confidence is a very important indicator for us and this recent fluctuation is a concern.

"Officers at Consett have never worked harder with a 44% reduction in recorded crime and a current detection rate of 56%. Operations have been focusing on anti-social behaviour across the area, disorder linked to the night-time economy, as well as under-age drinking, and there have been significant results.

"We are committed to continue to improve on this figure. People in Consett can contact the police with their concerns and be assured of an appropriate response. We are here to tackle community concerns and, together with our partners, that is our promise."
