Adan House Fire, Spennymoor
7th March, 2010
At 6pm on Saturday 6th March, police and firefighters responded to an alarm at Adan House surgery, St Andrew's Lane, Spennymoor to find the building alight and a large amount of smoke billowing from the premises.
The surgery was closed at the time but officers needed to evacuate Asda to ensure the safety of customers and staff.
The surgery has suffered extensive damage as a result of the fire and staff from the surgery are requesting that "for the immediate future we would appreciate it if all telephone enquiries are for urgent matters only. In the case of chest pain or collapse ring 999. Alternatively the Urgent Care Centre can be contacted on 0300 111 0111 or advice can be obtained from NHS direct on 0845 4647."
Plans are in place for the surgery to be able to offer patient care from alternative accommodation.
A message similar to that above will be available on the surgery answering service and will be updated with any changes.
Police have interviewed two children, aged 8 and 9 in relation to the arson attack. Although they are under the age of criminal responsibility, police will be discussing with the families of the boys, as well as social services and other appropriate Durham County Council staff, to discuss what further actions may be needed
Police are not looking for anyone else in this enquiry.
