"Partner of the year" Sedgefield CDRP

Members of the Safe Durham Partnership heard that police statistics were showing a reduction in all areas of the their strategy.

The 'Winter-Nights' initiative commencing in October focused on reducing dwelling burglary and has seen the most significant reduction of 22% on last years figure.

The partnership heard that figures for burglary, damage, violent crime and anti-social behaviour had all seen significant reductions.

Andrew Neill & Bill Bentham Neighbourhood Policing Inspectors at Newton Aycliffe & Spennymoor said. 'The achievements were encouraging and should provide the community with genuine reassurance' They went on to say that in order to continue in this way, it was essential crime reduction remained the focus of all partners and could only be achieved with public support.

In supporting the crime reduction strategy the police have been provided with funding for state of the art tracking equipment used for targeting thieves, as well as allocating resources to provide DNA security coding of valuables, at homes in the most vulnerable locations.

As part of this years work the partnership had also focused on providing a comprehensive package of measures which included: target hardening equipment; locks and alarms for issue to victims of burglary.

This work was also recently recognised by County Durham & Darlington Fire and Rescue Authority, who awarded the partnership 'Partner of the Year 2009'
