South Area - Newton Aycliffe

Neighbourhood Profile

Newton Aycliffe

We cover Newton Aycliffe, Aycliffe village, Middridge, Shildon, Eldon, Sedgefield, Bradbury, Mordon, Fishburn and the Trimdons and look after a population of 50,000.

We work from the main station at Newton Aycliffe and the local Section Offices at Sedgefield and Shildon. This year Sedgefield office has been refurbished and Shildon is soon to be. Newton Aycliffe is due to be rebuilt which will require its temporary closure. Alternative local accommodation is being sought. This ongoing work demonstrates our commitment to continuing to police from local, accessible buildings. This helps us identify and understand problems and allows us to get to you quicker in an emergency. Last year reported crime fell, anti-social behaviour incidents fell and the targets for responding to emergency calls were met (93% for urban and 94% for rural calls for help).

The area is covered by a local CID team, 5 response teams and a neighbourhood team

Whilst the response teams police the district around the clock, the neighbourhood team works flexible shifts to best target and problem solve emerging issues. The neighbourhood teams work from each of the 3 local stations. Each has a dedicated sergeant, beat police officers and PCSOs. The teams range in size from 11 at Newton Aycliffe, 6 at Shildon to 5 at Sedgefield. They each have geographical responsibility to help build good local links and to provide a familiar face, easy contact point and to deliver reassurance. The team is supported by a crime reduction officer and a community liaison officer who enhances our efforts by concentrating on our watch schemes (neighbourhood, shop, garage, farm, pub, and off-license). Special Constables have also worked with us to provide extra dedicated patrols and visibility.

Priorities

Your Neighbourhood Inspector

Your Neighbourhood Inspector My name is Andrew Neill and I am the neighbourhood inspector for Newton Aycliffe, Shildon and Sedgefield. I lead a committed team of police officers and PCSOs whose aim is to ensure a positive impact on the quality of life in the communities they serve. We have already significantly reduced crime and anti-social behaviour and we are striving to maintain and where possible further reduce those levels throughout this difficult period.

As we are accountable to you, I would encourage your attendance at the PACT (Police and Communities Together) meetings so that we can work together in setting local priorities. We need your information so that we target those places and those people that are causing the most problems. The meetings are held locally each month and will also often involve your local councillor and the County Council. We will report on crime and disorder in your area. We will agree your priorities. The following month we will tell you what we have done. For dates and locations of your local PACT see this website.
