Local Initiatives

Farm Watch

The Farm Watch scheme has been nationally recognised and is linked via our crime ring system allowing key messages to be sent out across rural communities. Members periodically work with local officers and specialist resources such as the road policing unit to target crime trends.

Pub Watch

A successful Pub Watch scheme meets monthly to discuss and deal with issues surrounding the night time economy. Members can vote to bar problem people from their premises on block.

Shop Watch

Key shops and businesses are linked with a police/partnership funded radio system to help combat retail crime and reduce town centre issues.

Hot Brief System

In addition to crime information problematic community issues are discussed and publicised on the internal briefing systems at the station to ensure all resources play a part to tackle issues. Where required partnership and specialist police resources are brought in.

Helping Young People

To help reduce potential for anti social behaviour we periodically apply for funding to support local youth clubs, sport and diversion schemes. In the last couple of years we have successfully obtained funding for UTASS, YMCA, Cockfield Youth Club Project, Staindrop Youth Club, junior rugby, cricket and football clubs. We are currently in the process of making a £3000 bid to the Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership to be shared between eight local youth groups.

Teesdale Traveller and residents working group

We are taking a lead role working with other partners to problem solve many issues which occur when travellers pass through the area on route to Appleby Fair. This includes the creation of temporary areas of acceptance to take pressure off communities and we are currently bidding for £5000 to deliver partial target hardening at Winston Village in response to community feedback.

Key Individual Networks (KINS)

Under the neighbourhood policing agenda we are currently developing our KINS. In simple terms this is about developing good community contacts in every parish to receive local concerns and spread information we want to give out.
