South Area - Barnard Castle
Neighbourhood Profile
This area, which stretches over 300 square miles, includes the historic market town of Barnard Castle and 35 villages and hamlets stretching from the edge of Weardale down to North Yorkshire, and from the Cumbrian border in the west.
The five response teams police the district around the clock, while the neighbourhood team works flexibly so that it can respond effectively to particular issues as they arise. The neighbourhood team comprises a sergeant, three beat police officers and five PCSOs. They each have geographical responsibility to help build good local links. There is also an additional member of staff who concentrates on our neighbourhood watch schemes and Farm Watch. Two Special Constables have also worked with us to provide extra patrols.
Teesdale remains the safest place in Durham Constabulary, with the lowest number of crimes per 1,000 people.

Your Neighbourhood Inspector
My name is Kevin Tuck and I am the Neighbourhood Inspector responsible for the rural districts of Teesdale and Weardale. This covers the whole of Teesdale excluding Evenwood, Toft Hill, Etherley and Hamsterley which are policed by officers from Bishop Auckland for geographical and response reasons. In Weardale I cover Crook, Willington, Tow Law and the Upper dale including Stanhope and Wolsingham. My aim is always to work with residents, key stakeholders and partners to reduce offences, detect crime and maintain community confidence.
