Local Initiatives

Operation Greenvale

Operation Greenvale is looking at reducing the reported incidents of metal thefts in the Chester-le-Street, Seaham and Peterlee areas and in doing so targeting the persons believed to be responsible for these crimes.

Operation Aigrette

This operation is focused on anti social behaviour in the Pelton area of Chester-le-Street, aiming to educate local people and combat those who act in an anti social manner. We have recently held anti social behaviour awareness workshops at Roseberry College.

Operation Antrimhills
This initiative is aimed at tackling the anti social behaviour hotspots in Sacriston. We aim to reduce street drinking which in turn leads to reducing criminal damage in the area.

Operation Eastborough
Operation Eastborough is aimed at cutting levels of youth nuisance / anti social behaviour in the ward of Chester West. We aim to do this by dealing with individuals who commit such offences in a positive manner.

Operation Marvinvillage
Operation Marvin Village is aimed at the four main Colleges / Comprehensive Schools throughout the district of Chester le Street, Fyndoune at Sacriston, Roseberry Sports College at Newfield, Park view and Hermitage at Chester le Street. This project looks to engagement, reassurance and communication of both staff and students. We are currently surveying all students so they can have their say, on crime and disorder. The results will be analysed and an action plan produced, so as a partnership we can tackle these needs and concerns which will benefit the whole community

Operation Apostlerock
A rolling programme of partnership action days has been developed with the aim of public reassurance. Wave after wave of activities will take place during the day from presentations at local schools, advice clinics, leaflet drops, crime prevention activities, neighbourhood watch, high visibility patrols, tackling local priorities etc. Operation Apostlerock is the first day at Edmondsley, towards the end of June.

Operation Arnstriver
With Operation Arnstriver we aim to work closely with Chester-le-Street Council to reduce the number of youths causing anti social behaviour in the hotspot area of South Pelaw. We will be taking positive action towards all youths involved in ASB.

Free Bicycle Marking

To help combat bicycle thefts in the Chester-le-Street area local PCSOs Adrian Richards and Christine Taylor are offering a free bicycle marking service to residents.

13,000 bikes were reported stolen last year in England and Wales and the PSCOs are keen to make sure Chester-le-Street citizens are protected.

Anyone interested in the service is asked to contact Adrian Richards or Christine Taylor on 0191 375 2340.

Alcohol Harm Reduction Plan

Alcohol has a major impact on many aspects on both individuals and the community as a whole, whether it is health, crime, disorder etc. Hospital rates for alcohol related admissions are increasing and binge drinking in both Chester le Street and Durham are well above the national average. This multi agency action plan will cover the next three years and concentrate on education, treatment and law enforcement with partner organisations, including licensees working together to reduce binge drinking and reducing alcohol related crime and disorder.
