On the 25th May 2007, Durham Constabulary’s I.T. Branch successfully passed a Charter Mark 3 year health check following an independent audit.

The Charter Mark assessor said that the level of compliance was very satisfactory and the recommendation was that the Charter Mark award was renewed for a further three years. He added that the trend during the previous three years of the Charter Mark award had been one of continuous improvement.

I.T. Branch was first awarded the Government’s Charter Mark standard for excellence in customer service delivery on the 31st March 2004. At that time the branch had a compliment of 22 staff. However, as the growth in the use of IT systems has increased across the force during the last three years so has the number of IT staff and the team now comprises 40 staff.

"Measuring up to the needs of our customers is paramount as far as Charter Mark is concerned and part of the assessment involved interviewing our customers. All had a very high opinion of the branch and could provide evidence of assistance given either by telephone via the Service Desk or through major projects delivered and supported by the team’."
