Bike Wise 2010 Sunday 25th July at Police HQ

Easter Egg Run 2009

By far the biggest BikeWise Easter Egg run to date took place on Easter Sunday gone with somewhere in the region of 800 bikes and probably something like 1200 people mustering in Tesco car park Durham onward bound for Durham and Darlington's main hospitals.

Escorted by Durham Police Motorcycle section with support from Cleveland Police Motorcyclists and Durham Advanced Motorcyclists acting as marshals the event wound its way through Durham City and down the A167 into Darlington.

The event was led by Sergeant Iain Rodgers and stunt rider Dave Coates on his Yamaha FZ1. Dave is no stranger to Durham Motorcycle Section having been a major attraction at the BikeWise events for a number of years.

Along the route crowds had gathered to photograph the impressive spectacle of so many bikes and to lend support to the participants.

A smile was brought to the children spending Easter in the hospitals of Darlington Memorial and University Hospital Durham who were given Easter Eggs donated by the bikers on the run.

The convoy then concluded at Police HQ for a hot drink, biscuits and a presentation on motorcycle casualty reduction work ongoing in the area.

Over the last couple of days the remaining eggs (Hundreds!) have been donated to Bishop Auckland Children's Ward, Hartlepool General Children's Unit, Heathway Respite Centre in Seaham, Sunderland General Children's Ward , The Durham Centre at Aykley Heads and our local special school; Trinity School, Durham.

In addition the money in the donation buckets has been counted and over £620 was donated for the benefit of the Meningitis Research Foundation.

So to all of you that took part from all of us at the bike section thank for making the day so successful, your patience, generosity and exemplary riding is a credit to you all, you should rightly be proud.

Ride safe and remember Respect the community, other road users, your machine and ultimately your life!!
